Xbox’s Mission to Support Indie Developers in Emerging Markets

At Gamescom Asia 2024, Xbox showcased its commitment to empowering indie developers in emerging markets like Southeast Asia, Africa, and India. Led by Agnes Kim, Director of Strategic Markets, and Jun Shen Chia, Global Expansion Lead, Xbox is helping creators overcome challenges with tools, funding, and education to succeed globally.

Tackling Challenges in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is a vibrant but fragmented region where indie developers face hurdles like limited visibility, funding gaps, and talent shortages. While markets like Indonesia and Singapore are thriving, others are still developing their gaming ecosystems.

“Indie developers are finding it increasingly hard to gain visibility in a market dominated by larger-scale titles,” Chia said. To address this, Xbox provides resources tailored to the region’s unique needs, empowering creators to bring their games to a global audience.

How Xbox Supports Indie Devs

- Developer Acceleration Program: Forcuses on funding education for developers from underrepresented regions.
- ID@Xbox: Offer techincal and marketing support to indie creators.
- Game Camp Asia: A two-month program led by Xbox experts to teach developers how to build like AAA studios."

These initiatives aim to boost indie games while fostering a more inclusive industry.

A Holistic Approach to Global Expansion

Xbox isn’t just focused on adding games to its platform—it’s building a diverse and interconnected gaming landscape. “Our player base is truly global,” Chia explained. “Programs like these ensure developers gain exposure, and players enjoy diverse and creative experiences.”

By supporting indie creators in emerging markets, Xbox is shaping a future where innovative games and diverse perspectives take center stage.
