Parco Enters the Game Publishing Space & Why That Matters for Vitamin

Parco, the Japanese department store chain that’s home to Nintendo, Sega, and Capcom stores in Tokyo, is launching a new indie publishing arm called Parco Games. Their goal is to publish indie games and showcase them across their 15 department store locations. The first titles are set to arrive this winter, with a debut planned for Tokyo Game Show.

What stands out about Parco’s move is how closely it mirrors what we are already doing at Vitamin. Our Williamsburg store brings games into a physical space where people can discover them in person. From our in-store arcade cabinets to our game demos and merchandise, we want visitors to experience games directly, not just buy them online.

Parco’s strategy confirms something we’ve believed from the start: games gain more impact when they are experienced in the real world. Physical retail gives indie projects the visibility and cultural energy they need, while also creating space for community. Seeing Parco lean into this further validates the approach we’ve been building with Vitamin, and shows that indie games have a bigger future in both digital and physical spaces.
